Elastomers EDPM, NBR, FPM: the raw materials of the BUCCHI seals

The choice of materials for seals is essential, above all in the case of products and fittings for specific applications and sectors.A suitable raw material is in fact an indispensable feature to ensure the quality, longevity and performance of the product. For this reason, the choice of BUCCHI S.r.l. to produce and use elastomer seals allows to create high-level products with extraordinary performance. In general, the main characteristics of elastomer seals concern: • the ability to adapt to dynamic movements, or to undergo significant elastic deformations, without changing the original shape of the gaskets• resistance to low temperatures• resistance to extreme thermal conditions Let’s see in detail, together with Dr. Anna Valentini, Head of Laboratory and Quality Control of BUCCHI Srl, the rubber raw materials used in the company. NBRThis elastomer is a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile and is used for most seal applications for conventional fluids.NBR elastomers offer good properties of compression, tear and abrasion resistance; good flexibility and high breaking load (up to 210kg cm²).The operating temperature varies from -30 ° to + 100 ° C, and for a short time up to 120 ° C.NBR seals are impermeable to gases and present an excellent chemical resistance in the presence of town gas, butane, propane, fatty acids, water and detergents. EPDMIt is an ethylene and propylene-based rubber plus a third monomer (diene). For its chemical structure it is particularly resistant to fluids such as water and vapour. The gaskets in E.P.D.M. they have a high resistance to permanent deformation and a good breaking load (up to 180 kg cm2), with an operating temperature from -45 ° to + 130 ° C, up to peaks of + 150 ° C.The EPDM compound offers a versatile solution and resists the corrosive action of chemical agents, oxidation, the ozone, heat, heat ageing; its resistance to high concentration acids is also good.However, it must be emphasized that this material is not compatible in applications with gasoline, lubricating oils, aromatic solvents and hydrocarbons. FPMThis fluorinated elastomer possesses an exceptional resistance to heat and to atmospheric and chemical agents. It has a low permanent deformation and a breaking load of over 140 kg cm2.The operating temperature varies from -30 ° to + 200 ° C, up to peaks of + 280 ° C.Fluorinated elastomers have an excellent chemical resistance in the presence of lubricating oils, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, petrol, hydraulic liquids not readily flammable, caustic soda, formaldehyde, chloroform, acids and numerous other chemical products. Their resistance to oxidation, ozone, atmospheric agents and ageing in sunlight is outstanding.The FPM compound is not recommended in contact with low molecular weight esters, ethers, ketones, and amines.

All BUCCHI products are designed and produced by carefully selecting the raw materials used in the production process, to meet the highest and most stringent quality standards requested by the market.Given the importance and versatility of BUCCHI fittings, pipes, and pipe/fitting systems for a wide range of uses, it is worth underlining all the advantages of the raw materials used, compared to traditional materials, in particular brass and PVC. Thanks to her help, we can outline the characteristics of every material used to make our products, which she describes as follows. PA66Polyamide PA66 is a material with high rigidity and hardness, resistant to abrasion, wear and fatigue. It has a low coefficient of friction and is resistant to corrosion. It also has good electrical, mechanical and thermal characteristics.Products made of PA66 can be used instead of brass products, with the advantage of being lighter, avoiding the formation of limestone incrustations, being more resistant to corrosion and atmospheric agents. The chemical formulation also guarantees total non-toxicity and suitability for contact with liquid food. PPPolypropylene is a material with good mechanical strength and excellent chemical resistance; it also has a high impact resistance and good dimensional stability.Compared to PVC fittings, they have the advantage of superior mechanical and bending strength, which makes it possible to use them at a wider range of operating temperatures. The chemical formulation also guarantees total non-toxicity and suitability for contact with liquid food. PPRRandom polypropylene (PPR) is part of the propylene family but has a greater resistance to low temperatures.It is one of the most electrically insulating materials and is insensitive to electrostatic and electromagnetic fields of any frequency. It also has a high resistance to chemical agents and is particularly inert even with respect to contact problems with food substances. These properties, together with the thermal and mechanical properties, make the PPR particularly suitable for use in the plumbing and heating sector.

Nautical fittings: changes due to the new ISO 9093-2020 standard

In operation since December 2020, the new ISO 9093 standard dedicated to nautical fittings presents different and essential updates compared to the previous ISO 9090 standard.The standard specifies the requirements for through-hull fittings, hull valves, connections for hoses, their fittings and their installation in small units having a hull of up to 24m in length. All parts and components of small vessels (from embarkation lines and water discharge, to drainage water outlets) must respond to specific requirements, in respect of the characteristics of the materials, resistance, test and use of same. Specifically: Material RequirementsThe materials used for the fittings (valves, through-hulls, hose adaptor and fittings used below the waterline) must be resistant to corrosion regardless of the fluid conveyed. Combination of materialsMetal materials, which combined (for example when using metal clamps) can lead to galvanic corrosion, must be isolated. The use of non-metallic materials must bear in mind correct seizure. Resistance to mechanical stressNon-metallic valves, through-hulls and hose connectors must meet the prescribed strength test. Operating temperaturesThe operating temperature range is defined from 0 ° C to 60 ° C. BDFast®, the innovation in quick hose jointing

BDFast® patented technology is a new generation of fittings for quick hose-jointing that combines high product quality and user friendliness. The BDFast® (PN 10) hose nozzle compression fittings in polypropylene secure the hose without the traditional metal clamp: the innovative clinching system allows to push-fit the fittings on uneven hose surfaces, be they single-layer, with PVC shockproof reinforcement or with metal spiral. The BDFast® fittings have excellent technical and mechanical characteristics, guaranteeing high performance both indoors and outdoors:10 BAR operating pressure, flexibility of temperature, guaranteed hydraulic seal, mechanical seal resistant to vibrations, stress, shocks and pulling of the delivery pipe. Reliability and high performance, combined with user friendliness: to connect an appliance to a hose with BDFast® simply screw the fitting onto the machine (with the possible addition of sealant if necessary), loosen the ring nut slightly, push-fit the hose until it reaches the mechanical stop and tighten the ring nut completely by hand. Range innovations: suction kits for water collection

New expansion for BDFast®, the brand of fittings for the highly innovative and patented BUCCHI branded quick hose jointing. The work of our highly qualified team and the research always directed at designing innovative products has led BUCCHI s.r.l. to introduce new suction kits for water collection. 1.1m long and with a 30mm pipe diameter, the innovative compression fittings for hoses BDFast® are perfect for the use of the suction KITS in collection tanks, water treatment, recovery and rain water collection systems. The use of BDFast® branded polypropylene fittings offers many advantages: avoiding the use of the metal clamp, they are maintenance free, as oxidation cannot occur. The new suction KITS are available in the version with a professional foot valve in POM with steel filter and float ball, or without valve and only with technopolymer filter. For many years now Bucchi srl works with some of local high schools to promote work-related projects. This year in particular, the company internship carried out by a student of ITCG Compagnoli institute for the second consecutive year, allow him not only to better understand the operative business method but also to operatingly take part into production process, flanked by technical and workshop departments staff. “Internship allow me to apply knowledge acquired last year, improving the activity of cataloging moulds and assigning specific code to elements that form them: matrix, pins, anchors. From using simple excel spreadsheet, to designing possible elements configuration and disposition, the activity of printing moulds gave me the opportunity to see and understand the production process and the methodology with who moulds are made, supported by corporate staff”. Always committed to vocational training promotion, BUCCHI s.r.l. proposed again internship courses and work-linked trainings for young and students of the territory. A new range extension for BUCCHI s.r.l., intending to completely satisfy market and costumers’ needs of greater versatility and flexibility. New fillers range, whose peculiarity is GAS threading seal used to facilitate junction attachment, allows an easier connection to different type of machines. New BUCCHI’s fillers are perfectly adequate to european standard that use GAS threading ISO 228/1: they can be easily coupled with products on the market such as seal and bi-seal valve, collectors or half fillers already installated on machineries. Maximum usage versatility that proves company’s continued reaserch in building and integrating easier connections for existing machineries. New fillers range covers all BUCCHI’s product lines and so it can be used for many different applications: from 8000 and 7000 Lines, respectively dedicated to industry and chemical industry, to 4000 Outdoor & Gardening Line, until 51 Line for cold water plumbing. The advantage of this containers, often reclaimed, is about its general process efficency: from the removal of equipment washing and repairing operations, to a greater control on liquid contained, until a costs riduction in the logistics chain. With the opening of the new Rabat city showroom, occurred last January, BUCCHI s.r.l. continues his internationalization process turning to the north-african state. Agents meeting 2017: a new approach

The first meeting for company Agents, Area and Sales Responsibles has take place on April 6th and the 7th at Tatì Hotel in Lugo. During this important event, Domenico Bucchi, Executive Director, and Roberto Marino, Italy Account Manager, shared the company mission and its foundamental values with all their collaborators, aiming at a new emotional market approach. The basis of these two days meeting have been the willingness to generate approval towards the company, involving and motivating its employers by sharing BUCCHI’s aims.
